How To Apply
- Please choose the role that best aligns with your career goals and only apply to one role during an academic semester. In the application form you can express interest in other geographies and terms (if you desire), so the company can consider you for other openings that fit your skills if your preferred role gets filled.
- Once you submit your application, the company's dedicated recruiters will review your qualifications. If selected for the next step, you'll be invited to an interview—either in-person or virtually. During this interview, the company will assess your fit for LyondellBasell by exploring your skills, experiences, and passion for our industry.

About the Program
LyondellBasell offers two different programs for students: an engineering co-op and a corporate internship program. The engineering co-op can take place during the fall, spring, or summer semesters, and is specifically tailored to chemical, electrical, environmental, health and safety, and mechanical engineering students. The corporate internship takes place in more general business areas, including finance, IT, HR, logistics and supply chain, sustainability, and more.
About the Company
LyondellBasell is a chemicals company with a focus on plastics-making. It is the biggest licensor of both polyethylene and polypropylene technologies in the world. Its CEO is Peter Vanacker, and though it is legally domiciled in The Netherlands, its official headquarters is in Houston, Texas. As of 2016, it is the third-largest independent chemical manufacturer in the U.S.
Intern Reviews
- “The quality of life at my internship is great. The one thing that sticks out to me is that LYB is very team-work oriented. Everyone that I talk to is always supportive not only of me, but with each other as well. All the LYB employees that I've talked to never hesitated to help me with my projects. I was required to work 40 hours per week. The work-life balance is great. LYB understands that we have family and is very good with supporting its employees with time off for family emergencies.”
- “I think LYB as a whole does an excellent job at encouraging a positive work/life balance. Interns are expected to work their usual 40 hours but do not require any overtime work. The overall culture pushes high quality and results but in a productive manner. All of the people I have worked for/with have been kind and truly care about how you are doing. Very positive work environment where everyone is friendly with each other.”
- “The LYB company culture is incredible. The company really values its employees and makes efforts to support them. The people I work with on site are incredibly kind, intelligent, personable, and knowledgeable. I work 40 hours a week, and I'm never pressured to work overtime or beyond what is expected of me. There is a good work/life balance for me because I am not contacted about work when I'm not there.”
- “The firm culture and overall environment are amazing! Everyone, regardless of their role and position within the company, is supportive, friendly, and always willing to help or chat. I genuinely love coming into the office to work with my team.”
Getting Hired Here
- “I had very positive interactions with the interviewers. It was not a highly technical engineering interview, but rather a more personality-based, STAR-type question interview. I had a good discussion after the formal interview portion to ask questions about the company and the industry.”
- “The interview process went well, and it was very relaxed. The questions were the perfect blend of technical and "about me" sorts of questions. Another unique aspect is that the interviews are often conducted by department managers which shows the company truly cares who is working for them from the top down.”
- “The hiring process for my first term was very smooth. I spoke with a LYB representative at a career fair where they then offered me an interview slot. The interview was professional but also conversational; I got to ask my own questions. They reached out with my offer within a month and gave me about a month to decide.”
- “The initial screening call was very comfortable. After that, there [were] two interview rounds. I talked to four people between those two interviews, and it was conversational, comfortable, informative, and great questions were exchanged between myself and the interviewer.”
