About the Program

The New York Times offers a summer internship program to students attending traditional colleges and universities, as well as those in non-traditional educational pathways, like boot camps and associate programs. The program is 10 weeks long, and all interns are paid for the opportunity. Candidates who are interested in various areas of media and entertainment are encouraged to apply. The program is based out of the company’s New York office and runs on a hybrid basis in most cases.

About the Company

Since 1851, The New York Times has been publishing “all the news that’s fit to print,” with hard-hitting international, national, and local articles. It is one of the best-known and respected newspapers in the country and has won over 100 Pulitzer Prizes.

Intern Reviews

  • “Such a good workplace; I absolutely loved my experience and constantly felt supported by my team and other members of the organization.”
  • “No pressure to work past work hours, friendly environment, encouraged to grow and ask questions, huge coffee chat culture.”
  • “Such a great, full, vibrant culture amongst the intern cohort, my team, and the organization at large. Everyone frequently encouraged socializing and balancing work and fun.”
  • “The best in the industry to a varying degree depending on the team. Specifically, I loved the coffee culture and the flexibility my team had to work whenever/wherever while maintaining a high level of performance.”

Getting Hired Here

  • “Very swift and organized interview process.”
  • “Everyone that interviewed me was super nice. The interviews were concise yet thorough.”
  • “As good as the interview process can be, pretty quick replies. I wish we were notified of results a little sooner, this was the last internship I heard back from.”
  • “I actually really loved the interview process. My first interview was just a screening call with the recruiter, who was extremely pleasant and amiable! The next one was a behavioral interview with two members of my team (who ended up being my mentor & manager)! It was just to gauge the fit with the team, and we discussed my past work and experiences as well as what they worked on at the Times. The last interview was technical, and it was with two different members of my team (who I worked closely alongside during my internship)! We worked on a practical problem that you would feasibly encounter in the workplace with the languages we used on the team, and they were extremely understanding and valued thought process and seeing how you navigated the issue over raw coding output.”
